The Night Before

Our second post comes from a very busy and convoluted train; having accidentally booked a train which goes through just about every town/city in Scotland instead of a train straight from Glasgow to Inverness, we have some time to kill!

This weekend we are starting our adventure, planning to bag our first four peaks which are the most northerly Munros;

Ben Hope, Ben Klibreck, Ben More Assynt and Conival.

We leave tomorrow morning at 6am (help) and will do our first overnight stay (helphelp) and will be testing all our new gear and also our own limits. It’s really exciting but after discovering last night that we will need to take some ice axes (which I have never used before), as the snow has been pretty heavy this week, I am already looking forward to a hot shower on Saturday night!

We’ll be trying out some really cool stuff including some Therm-a-rests, Vango Trail-lite sleeping bags, a Jetboil SUMO and a tent which has so far only been described as a ‘one-pole-wonder’ so I’m quite keen to find out if our new kit is as good as the reviews and very persuasive sales assistants have promised. πŸ˜› Lewis is hoping to do a kit review at some point as well, so you can look forward to seeing how to pack your life up onto your back like a very efficient turtle!

We’re going with some of Home Bargain’s finest pasta packets and oaty bars for this weekend but are on the lookout for some more ‘exotic’ recipes for dry food etc that we can make ourselves so feel free to share any ideas in the comments section. We are also looking forward to some mini-challenges such as taking pictures of sunrises/sunsets or finding the best place in the highlands for a well-deserved cuppa (probably home!) so we would love to hear if you guys have any ideas for this too.

Maps, pictures and more posts are to follow, so watch this space! πŸ™‚

Morgan
