Fionn Bheinn, almost!

On Sarurday we thought we had made it to the top of Fionn Bheinn, but it just wasn’t to be. Disappointed. Lesson learned. We will walk again!

With two others joining the trek we set off up the Munro at a similar time to Fridays exped, 10.40am. The conditions were awful both underfoot and overhead but morale was high as we trugged up the boggy wilderness in heavy fog. It was a day where we were all thankful for the waterproof kit and for chocolate snacks.

After we had lunch, fog decended and windy conditions met us at what we believed to be the summit of the mountain. Unfortunately we were 10m below the summit, which we only found out once back to the car!! This was met with great distress by both myself and Morgan. Lesson to be learned: dont assume every pile of rocks is the top. Or maybe, just dont let me navigate.

I have vowed from now on to check a picture of the summit for each and every peak. (Not that it softens the blow that we will have to scale this uninspiring hill again).

After two days walking we only have one peak bagged, but we both feel alot better prepared for the stains of summer looming (when we come up to the Highlands for most of June).

Tomorrow we have big plans but we will have to see what the weather brings. Will keep you posted!
